I was busy last weekend. Declared Computer Science as my major (with a minor in Latin) on Friday morning, hung out with Morgan that evening, spent all of Saturday afternoon with Christa, and then went up to Granville to see the guys I lived with last year.

Right now I'm feeling that declaring CS was the right thing to do. We got a challenging assignment in my software class today, and after eating a late lunch, doing the DTH crossword and Sudoku in the Student Union, etc., I came back to my dorm and programmed non-stop for about four hours, debugged the damn thing for another half hour, and then it started working. And now I'm done, a week before due. That never happens. I think my procrastination reflex is flummoxed, unable to determine whether Java is work or play.

Three days ago, Diana and Amy not-Blevins came to UNC. We lounged all over campus and dined on Franklin and goodbyed each other with some emphasis, as I won't see Diana again for a few months at least. I wore a T-shirt that day, only getting slightly chilly at sunset.

And this morning, it snowed. Of course, I couldn't use my bike, and classes went on as usual, and it's all melted now, and the clouds dripped sleet through afternoon and evening. But snow!

I rather like having to scrounge dinner in my room, especially when I've just stocked up on edibles. Tap water, crackers and cheese, fig newtons, beef jerky, dried mangoes, nuts, vanilla yogurt, and dark chocolate rated at 72% cocoa -- nearly the antithesis of dining hall food.

This semester has a not insignificant chance of reducing me to a drooling, quivering post-sentient husk, yoked to my keyboard, tormented by primal fears, baffled and dismayed by bright lights and loud noises, doomed to repeatedly tap out code and see it erased without explanation in an endless Sisyphean cycle. Or, alternatively, I'll decide that CS is indeed a viable major. If anything saves me, it'll be the lack of any classes before 11 AM.

Campus is ugly in the winter, especially without any snow to mask it.

I've just now returned from a more typical Amy night, the kind in which hours pass as unnoticed as those spent in dreamless sleep. Early on, we stopped by the grocery store so she could buy a head of lettuce to munch on -- she has the most bizarre eating habits of anyone I know. Spent most of the night talking, but she did also teach me how to play Minesweeper.

Yesterday, I doubled my pants supply, watched most of the first season of Metalocalypse, and trounced my family at Scrabble. The night before that, Diana and I quested for free Chipotle, and eventually for burritos of any price, but had to settle for making ourselves dinner, which anyway is a good thing for me to practice. Tara was home, and Caroline and a friend also came over, and we ended up playing Cranium, having what seemed to me a great time, etc.

And the night before that, which was New Year's Eve, I met the Trio Disco at Hannah's house, where we watched This Is Spinal Tap, guzzled fizzy cider, and verbally ruminated upon the current states of our lives, though Erica missed most of it, having had to leave early.

Also hung out with Trevor and Michael last week at the latter's house, noteworthily.
