Yesterday I got this summer's first haircut and took its last midnight swim. I'm writing this on my new laptop, from my dorm on 6th floor in Granville South.
Thinking back, I'm pretty sure that the idea of college de-abstracted itself as follows: 5% when I first visited UNC, 5% during the application process, 5% when I got accepted, 80% when I got down to the real packing last night, imagining each and every minute object residing in a new setting, and gradually building up the collective image of the central object, myself, being also in that new setting, and the final 5% when I actually got here. In other words, I feel as though nearly all of this realized itself overnight.
Turns out there are two people I know on my floor: Rachel Brody, with whom I had Wajima's memorable calculus class in junior year, and Audrey, to whom Amy introduced me only last week. This is a welcome coincidence. In addition I'm sure I saw Rachel Beth Pittman earlier, which was a complete, total and fairly pleasant surprise since she's very firmly in the pluperfect section of my memory.
I'm a bit tired, and rather more excited than I can directly perceive, and could probably blather on for a good hour or two. Instead I think I'll go forage for a bit. Granville's cafeteria doesn't open 'til Tuesday so it might be a bit of a walk.
