I'm not sure why it's been so long since posting. I think I kinda forgot about this thing -- that, and I developed callouses against guilt's goad.
Been putting a fair fraction of the last few weeks' hours into Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, the PC version of which I picked up (on the sly, of course) near the beginning of summer. At $20 it was nearly a mandatory purchase, as its music alone is worth that much. As anyone who's played it knows, it is one hell of a game. It's far from perfect -- you can't actually enter most of the buildings, you keep seeing the same character models over and over, you can't helicopter all the way to mainland Florida. These may sound like significant complaints, but in fact they're only noticeable because of the game's general excellence. In most games it's taken for granted that 90% of structures are empty props. In Vice City, after cruising past hundreds of unique characters and exploring hotels, restaurants, beaches, clubs, mansions, and film studios, not to mention the dozens of miles of roads and the great missions, the player starts to develop unreasonable expectations. Personally I find it impossible to be disappointed by a game that allows you to do everything from stealing tanks from the Army to delivering pizzas for cash to rescuing "a bunch of drunken Scottish bisexuals" from a psychotic stalker to helicoptering above Washington Beach, watching a dazzling sunset and listening to some Mr. Mister on Emotion 98.3. My only substantial complaint is that Tommy Vercetti, professional badass, needs to take some goddamn swimming lessons.
Anyway, work (at Harris-Teeter) is fine, I actually saw some friends earlier this week, and I'm at Nana's right now. The water was great at the beach this afternoon, though I've got a sun-burn that'll make tomorrow unpleasant; and now that I've mostly finished Vice City I've no excuses for being such a hermetic loser -- at least, none that I'm much inclined to discuss.
